Ayurveda
What is Ayurveda:
Ayur in Sanskrit means life or longevity and Veda means science or sacred knowledge.
It is arguably the oldest system of medicine in the world but due to its dynamic nature it is still as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. It is also the only system of medicine with a spiritual background and is said to have originated from divine wisdom and the wisdom of nature.
The goal of Ayurveda is to achieve a long and healthy life and thus it covers a breadth of knowledge on how to live well and balance the body, mind, and spirit.
Ayurveda encourages dietary and lifestyle interventions and other natural therapies in order to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit and environment.
How does it benefit me or my patients?
Just as we all have a unique fingerprint, each of us has a particular pattern of energy – an individual combination of physical, mental and emotional characteristics. It follows, therefore, that one diet or one treatment does not fit all. We need a carefully formulated therapeutic plan to match our individual genetic make-up.
Many factors, both external and internal, act to disturb our balance, including diet, the seasons, stresses, trauma and relationships. Once these factors are understood we can take appropriate action to re-establish balance. Balance is the natural order and imbalance is disorder. Health is order, disease is disorder.
